Complementary to the hosted research centres and groups hosted, PORTIC fosters the emergence of a few strategic areas of research, promoting internal research groups to develop critical mass at the Polytechnic of Porto.

Currently, PORTIC integrates two research groups:

• Cybersecurity: research in computing systems, software and networks, considering from the computing technologies to digital identities and authentication;
• Health technologies: research in innovative technologies, tools and digital solutions to diagnose, treat, or prevent health problems, leading to more effective and efficient healthcare, improving quality and efficiency of interventions.
